Emma, the point I was making is simply that capitalism is not to blame here – government intervention IS. And your post appeared to blame capitalism.

Nice rant. I’ve been meaning to write one of my own, but I tend to neglect my blog… It’s interesting to note that the 60GB you get for $60 isn’t even full internet access. Rogers blocks certain ports (like 25/smtp) and runs traffic shaping software to make some services faster than others.
The CRTC really fails canadians. If those Internet prices aren’t enough, check out our cell phone bills. 5¢ per incoming SMS? That’s just wrong.

Well that’s just it, Andrew: Government intervening has no part in real capitalism and while I fully support it for things like healthcare I just feel like it has no role in consumer products, such as ISP service.

Isn’t the CRTC a government institution? And isn’t that institution limiting free competition?

Perhaps you rant should have concluded with:

“Government intervention, you have failed YET AGAIN.”

Great post Emma. Paying for internet access over certain threshold just plain sucks. What is going to happen when in the very near future virtually all content is going to be downloaded over the internet and in high def? 300GB is going to be used up pretty quickly watching TV, Movies, Youtube, live streaming, etc.
