I love sports but I still haven’t made it out to a Toronto FC game. Even though one of my friends is dating one of the players. Even though Jon from MLSE is a great friend. And even though I’ve heard that the games are action-packed, high-energy and super fun. So I’m happy to announce that…

Life Goals: Do We Have the Guts to Follow Through?
11Aug 2009
Did a blog post YouTube style tonight. Let me know what you think in the comments guys. If I sound out of it, it’s because I did this post-NeoCitron. Might be feeling the efftects…. zzz.
Thanks for posting the video. I think your video indicates the condition and resonates with all twenty-somethings experience to some degree whether you’re fresh out of school or a few years into your career. We’re all searching for meaning, adventure or gain a better understanding ourselves and the world around us.
Being in my late 20's, I've had the all too familiar excuses of school, girlfriend, family, (insert any "reasonable" excuse) to not to follow through on our dreams/goals.
Perhaps its me just me trying to make up for lost time on countless failures in the past that compelled me to reply to your vlog . Anyways, back to what you were talking about, “having the guts to follow through” – I think it’s a far too convenient excuse to be bound by our “trappings” of work, family, friends and relationship.
Having been through an insane journey of personal development over the last few years of my life (and I still am), if there’s one thing I’ve learned is that we need to leave our comfort zones to truly grow and live life to its fullest (sounds sooo cliché, but true). What’s your push going to be?
Books like The Alchemist and The Four Hour Workweek come to mind for me when I was watching your video.
About your friends, family and such.. who says it has to be permanent? I think you’re in a privileged position to have even the choice of being able to work on another side of the world, so don’t squander it! ;)
I’ll end this comment with a quote from Brian Tracy – “What one great thing would you dare to dream if you knew you could not fail?”
Thanks for shooting your vlog, Emma

Hey,
Great post...
@amanda - I'm an accountant too, so I understand where you're coming from. Luckily, the world will always need us to do taxes and audit companies. There will never be a point in time where you won't be able to find work if you look hard enough.
This isn't something I'm just saying. I really mean it. I'm actually writing this comment from a cyber cafe in Dahab on the coast of the Sinai peninsula. And I've got a job to come back to once I get home. This took some negotiating, but it worked out.

Hey Emma! I really enjoyed this post. I've been pondering the same questions myself. There's a lot of things I want to do in my life but worry that pursuing them will take away from my career as an accountant. I'm scared shitless of having to start from scratch!
I LOVE travel too! I recently applied for a position with Contiki Holidays in Europe. I did it as a total whim. But, I got an interview with them in Feb. This could be an experience of a lifetime! But I don't know if I have the guts to to leave the daily grind of debits & credits.
What's even more ironic is that I booked vacation time with my boyfriend and Kirsten to visit London then on to Spain. They want to interview me on Feb 8th... already booked a flight to arrive on the 7th! What weird luck?!
Im going to go to the interview...but what if I get an offer?!AH?!
